DPP Paula Llewellyn to Pursue Retrial in Vybz Kartel Case
According to the The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn, the public has to be aware the issue of retrial has nothing to do with who the accused is. She contends that prosecutors are obliged to proceed with a specific aspect, particularly considering the solid case presented by the prosecution.
She argues that emotions do not play a role, but rather, factors such as the severity of the crime, public interest, the scope of the retrial and it doesn’t even have nothing to do with what the likely verdict maybe but a number of other factors.
Speaking to Nationwide News, Kartel, whose given name is Adijah Palmer, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. Johns had their murder convictions overturned in the Privy Council last Thursday.
The stated that the prosecutor is obliged to go on a particular path. She argues that there is a need to sensitize the public in regards to the complex issues of the law.
