According to Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson, gun men are moving uptown. They have acquired wealth and are living in gated communities. He said, thirteen firearms – 10 rifles, 2 sub-machine guns and a pistol – were seized in gated community Florence Hall, Trelawny. One known gang leader was fatally shot during the incident and one woman was taken in police custody.
The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Kevin Carpenter. Several lead sheets were also found during the incident. He is an ex-convict and a reputed top-tier member of the Compound gang based in Trelawny, according to police report.
He continue to say the police need the help of the general public to help control the crime epidemic. He went on to say that this is not an Inner-city problem. It is a National problem because the gun men have acquired wealth and are living in gated communities. He urged people living in affluent communities to report any suspicious behaviour are strange activities they may see. He said, “we need your help to find them”.
He also confirmed that 3 of Western Jamaica most wanted are in custody waiting to be charged.
The commissioner said this is a continued effort to crackdown on guns, gun men and gangs on the Island.
