Jamaica breaks new ground in Aviation with flight 4007
Jamaica created aviation history on Saturday 24 February-2024 at the Ian Fleming International Airport (IFIA) in Boscobel, St Mary. It welcomed American Airlines’ inaugural flight from Miami, Florida in the United States to the airport. A National pride was on display at the airport as flight AA4007 landed and made its way down the runway for the first time.
There was an official ceremony in Florida and then on the grounds in Jamaica. The flight was one of fanfare, patriotism and an emotional trip for the lucky selective few who got tickets. The passengers were captured on video aboard the plane waving Jamaican flags in celebration.

Ian Fleming International Airport sits just a short 20-minute journey from the bustling tourism epicenter of Ocho Rios. The airport’s convenient location, coupled with its close proximity to top-tier resorts, hotels, and attractions, makes it a tantalizing gateway to Jamaica. Not to forget the added literary allure of being near the Goldeneye estate, where Bond magnate Ian Fleming penned his legendary sagas.
In a nod to Ian Fleming’s 007, the nonstop route takes on the flight number AA-4007. Flying twice in a week, this service provides an unbroken link to the vibrant vibes of Ocho Rios.
From the iconic Jamaica Inn to the refined Sandals Royal Plantation, and the amorous Couples Tower Isle, Ocho Rios houses a range of plush resorts. Plus, the historical charm of the Goldeneye resort in Oracabessa, a living testament to Fleming’s influence, only adds to the allure.
The trailblazing flight to Ian Fleming International Airport not only augments American’s reach in Jamaica, but also significantly diminishes travel durations for those inbound to the Ocho Rios territory. Thanks to the strategic placement of the airport on the north coast, quick access to this vibrant destination is a given.
According to Loop News, Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport, Daryl Vaz, and Executive Chairman of Sandals Resorts International and Appliance Traders Group, Adam Stewart, were among the officials who witnessed the historic flight’s landing at the Boscobel-based airport.
“Endless possibilities for the Ian Fleming International Airport in Boscobel, St Mary,” Vaz later wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“I was pleased to welcome the crew and passengers, representing the first of many who will fly this route,” he continued.
“Our Government is committed to #BuildingForYou and this is yet another example of us implementing effective policies and taking decisive actions for the benefit of all Jamaicans,” Vaz added.
In 1952, Ian Fleming penned the first James Bond novel, Casino Royale, at Goldeneye, his winter home in Jamaica.
Jamaica was heavily showcased in the first ever Bond film in 1962, Dr No. It featured a famous scene where actress Ursula Andress emerged from the clear waters of the Caribbean island in a bikini.
Not only were all thirteen (13) James Bond movies written in Jamaica, three (3) of the films were partially shot on the island as well, with the most recent, No Time to Die, closing off the theatrical run of Bond, played by Daniel Craig. All the three James Bond movies to film in Jamaica, ‘Dr No’ (1962), ‘Live and Let Die’ (1973), and ‘No Time to Die’ (2021), all three have featured the CIA agent Felix Leiter character.
