Sidem Öztürk: From Stalker and Groupe to Wifey
Sidem Öztürk, who is engaged to dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel, has been in the news since his release from prison.
Öztürk who is of Kurdish descent, was born in Turkey. She moved to the UK at a young age and has lived in London for over 29 years. She was introduced as Kartel’s future wife on FOX5 New York.
Kartel mentioned they are planning to marry soon.
“Yes, we plan to get married soon. She is my fiancée. I proposed to her while I was in prison because I was sure I would be released.”
Öztürk’s relationship with Vybz Kartel began in an unconventional manner. While she’s been a fan of his music, the two began corresponding in 2015. However, they finally met in 2019 once she traveled to Jamaica.
Kartel gave the less romantic version of the story, revealing that the Turkish woman stalked one of his baby mother’s to find out where he was serving his prison sentence.
“We met in 2015,” he said on the Juan EP is Life podcast. “She actually stalked my baby mother’s, one of my baby mother’s Instagram cause she couldn’t find me, so she had to watch who my baby mom’s was following. So, she found me through my baby mom’s Instagram.”
In his latest Interview with keyshiakaoir, Kartel confirmed how the two met, “she actually stalked me while I was in prison. She actually found me through my baby mother’s Instagram“, he said.
It’s hard to ignore the suspiciously obsessive demeanor Öztürk displayed in her debut OnStage interview. As an unabashed fan of Gaza, she claims to have fallen in love with him from afar through his music, interviews, and appearances. But really, how much of a fan does one have to be to exhibit such infatuated fervor?
“I found him very handsome, so I was very attracted to him and you can kind of call it an obsession cause I thought he was the most perfect man for me and walking the Earth, so I just really wanted to meet him and get to know him.”
She came, she saw, and conquered, beginning what is claimed to be a nine-year journey with Vybz Kartel.
Sidem started a relationship with Kartel while he was involved in a complicated relationship with Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson, his on-and-off common-law wife and the mother of three of his children. She is considered his most well-known partner. He was also in a relationship with Sherika Todd, the mother of his first daughter.
In one occasion both Sherika Todd and Sidem Oztürk appeared in a video declaring themselves “Sister Wives”. Both women in matching outfits, jeans, and white tops. Todd confirmed, that’s how it’s done.
Despite the supposedly friendly relationship with both women, Sidem somehow emerged as the victor and is now the last woman standing beside Vybz Kartel. After serving 12 years and 10 months behind bars, Kartel is now a free man. Interestingly, he’s declared himself a “one burner,” meaning Sidem is, for now at least, the only woman he’s reportedly engaged to.
Kartel, declared that he love Sidem “next to God.”
Kartel say she is persistent and her mouth sweet is sweet.
The couple has launched a YouTube vlogging channel, Kiss Me Baby TV, and an Instagram page. The channel has over 50,000 subscribers and offers short videos of them doing daily activities, traveling, and helping Kartel adjust to society.
Sidem mentioned that Kartel has been talking to her mom, saying they plan to have children but will marry first because of cultural traditions. The Kurdish people value family and see weddings as a significant celebration and most Kurds are Sunni Muslims.
There is no way god me him to take him away, I got that much faith in God. If he brought him into my life to take him away, that would break me, she said. Sidem Öztürk declared, “he is my man”.
It’s hard to ignore the skepticism swirling around on social media regarding this interview. Many see it as an offensive attempt by Kartel to whitewash his past behavior towards the Jamaican women he has had children with, and cheated on, all while portraying himself as some sort of saint. The fact that Sidem was aware of his relationships with children mothers and even in a sister wife situation makes this unlikely narrative feel more like a misguided fairytale than reality.
