Vybz Kartel Faces Backlash on Social Media after evoking Maroon Strength Claim
It seems like Vybz Kartel has put himself in the line of fire once again. Social media users are not holding back, roasting the artiste for his latest comments about evoking Maroon strength. Critics are questioning the validity and relevance of his claims, suggesting how can he bleach his skin and being a Maroon.
@bikerchic650 wrote, “Claims to be maroon, bleaches skin. How poetic”.
for_tru_ wrote, “But sir, you killed someone. People really be having main character syndrome and it’s insanity”.
kyokai7 wrote, “Sit ya ass down an keep quiet inna di cell😂 you chose a life of badness, enjoy it”.
@chevy_swh wrote, “so you nuh think Clive’s ancestors them a help his mother too?? 😭😂. Go set the rat traps them and gwaan a you sponge”.
Kartel infuriation comes after he and two of his three co-accused were denied bail on Thursday May 30, when they appeared in the Supreme Court in Kingston.
On Thursday June 6, Kartel tweeted a report from FOX 5 NY’s Lisa Evers who have been closely following the case.
In the tweet on X, Kartel wrote, “From 2011 till now, if you ever know how much a dem weh did a fight me dead n gone lef me. Heart attack, stroke, cancer every ting a kill dem. As dem send it me send it back #MaroonStrength mi ancestors na let me down. Me and unuh bomboclaat yer”.
In the report, Evers stated that Vybz Kartel’s health has deteriorated rapidly in the last year, according to his doctor and son. According to his doctor, Kartel’s heart is now so weak, his life is in danger if he does not get surgery soon.
However, some are questioning why Vybz Kartel should receive special privileges compared to other convicted felons.
One person wrote, “Nobody isn’t fighting you. Cut that narrative about system being against you when you are a main part of the system itself. Acting like you innocent when you know you dabbled in criminality”.
A few people are suggesting that “Along time Kartel a wuk Obeah still enuh”.
Many of the comments were directed on a post made my Sleek Jamaica Media.
Supreme Court Justice Andrea Thomas, in her decision to deny bail to the applicants, stated that in the absence of a verdict or acquittal by the Privy Council, the charge of murder remains in effect.
“In view of the fact that their appeal is not yet determined they should remain in custody until their appeal is concluded… That is until a verdict of acquittal is entered or there is a decision for a retrial,” Thomas said.
Lawyers representing Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer and two of his three co-accused filed the habeas corpus application seeking their release on May 14 because of issues the defence did not wish to disclose.
The application follows the Privy Council’s ruling on March 14, which declared that Vybz Kartel and his co-accused have their convictions overturned for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
The Privy Council mandated that the case be returned to Jamaica’s Appeal Court to determine whether a retrial is warranted for Kartel and his co-accused, Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John.
This ruling by the Privy Council came after an appeal was lodged in February by the defense attorneys, who raised several issues, including the admissibility of telecommunication evidence, claims of jury misconduct, and allegations of undue pressure on the jury to reach a verdict.
In April 2014, Kartel was sentenced to life imprisonment, with eligibility for parole after serving 35 years. His co-accused were also sentenced to life imprisonment, with Shawn Storm and Jones becoming eligible for parole after 25 years, and St John after 15 years.
